During periods of extreme cold, Santa Cruz County activates Emergency Severe Weather Shelters to provide overnight relief for people who need a safe, warm place to stay.
Shelters operate overnight on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority for individuals with disabilities and health or safety risks.
Details on location, hours, and what to expect are provided below and may change based on weather conditions and capacity.

- Open Thursday, January 8 & Friday, January 9
- 8PM – 8AM (overnight only)
- Lineup begins at 7:30 PM

What to Know Before You Go
- First-come, first-served
- Priority given to people with disabilities and health or safety risks
- Food is served after intake and bed assignments
- Belongings must fit in a small storage area near sleeping areas
- Pets are allowed if leashed and under voice control
- Aggressive animals are not permitted
